Art made from rust and copper oxide

Tony Reason creates pictures from metal oxides that slowly develop in a complex oxidation process. By specifying shapes and patterns, he steers the material's own dynamics towards an ordered structure.

The result is relief-like surfaces and landscapes, abstract structures and unforeseen colour effects - a painterly form of expression in which even time itself becomes a creative medium.

The vision

Tony Reason's works are snapshots of a flowing process.

Rust and patina develop over weeks and months and tell of change, transience and the beauty of the unforeseen, inviting the viewer to understand decay not as a loss but as a creative force.

About the artist

Tony Reason was born in Hastings, England, in 1956 and has lived in the Allgäu region since 2001.

After studying fine art, specialising in sculpture, he turned to working with bronze and patina - his first exploration of material, surface and time.

Today he concentrates on painting with metal, combining creative discipline and experimental openness.

The artistic oeuvre

Tony Reason's works have been shown in numerous exhibitions in Germany and abroad. These include Shakespeare's Fulcrum Gallery in New York, the Kunst Pavillon in Munich, the Zeiss-Großplanetarium Berlin and the Cowcross Gallery in London.

His works have also been shown at the Raab Gallery in Berlin, the Jersey Arts Centre in the Channel Islands and the Primecare Gallery in Memmingen.

The variety of exhibition venues reflects the broad response to his work - across geographical and institutional boundaries.
